You don’t know real happiness until you see one of your favourite novels transformed into a ten-part series on Amazon Prime. With Taylor Jenkins-Reed's hit fiction novel Daisy Jones and the Six being adapted for television recently, an electric look at the highs (literally) and lows of being in a worldwide sensation band in the peak of the 1970s – à la Fleetwood Mac. As these hit television shows usually go, especially one entering the mainstream just on the cusp of hot summer days – a frequent feature in the Los Angeles landscapes of Daisy Jones, the closets of the complex members of the Daisy Jones and the Six crew are worth setting your sights on. The show provides a look at three very different styles of feminine dress in the 1970s, giving you a chance to not only explore a bit into fashion history, but perhaps – coupled with a little more guidance below – even find which 70s niche is yours to embody this summer season.

Camilla Dunne

Camilla Dunne has the lightest style of the three leading ladies of DJATS. She wears Woodstock-esque looks, playing into lots of lighter, more feminine styles, especially when compared with those of her screen partners, Daisy and Karen. Camilla’s fashion is the perfect transitional style, easily wearable throughout the spring season, right into summer. If you’re after an effortless, flowy, 70s style for summer, Camilla’s is the look for you.

As seen above, Camilla is typically seen sporting maxi dresses or three-quarter length skirts, an easily customizable look to one's own style. With longer denim skirts coming into the trend cycle now – seen in shops like Brandy Melville or Urban Outfitters – it's no surprise Camilla’s style stays so popular in conversation surrounding the series. If you're looking to play more into her more floral, true seventies style, shops like Anthropologie or Free People are great options for finding pieces. Free People has even recently released a collection in collaboration with the Daisy Jones team, playing right into any fashion desires this show is sure to conjure up.

For Camilla in particular, these items from the collection are a great start:

The Gigi Dress

Karen Sirko

For those who seek out an edgier silhouette in fashion, Karen’s closet is the one for you. As a side note, the actress, Suki Waterhouse, is practically a real-life Karen, and is worth checking out if you found yourself attracted to her style through the show. Quite reflective of the recently popular “rockstar girlfriend” style – though she is the rockstar – she has the most modern styles of the three. Karen has several recreation-worthy looks for the leather-and-lace in all of us, and has, much like Camilla, a versatile and easy-to-find wardrobe.

A little less summery than that of Camilla’s, Karen’s style is quite dark. This style is likely more employable in fall and winter seasons, but still, it is worthy of a highlight. Reflecting her more rough-edge personality, Karen’s dress is tougher – lots of black and darker tones. This saturation of darker tones was perfectly broken up in an earlier episode – see the photos above – when she donned a seventies floral swimsuit. This was a fantastic contrast and again, a good display of her character as she is usually the assertive type, but still has a soft side, represented through these clothes.

Below are items from the Free People collection perfect for the Karen closet:

Corrie Coin Blazer

Daisy Jones

If I were to steal the style of one of the characters on this show, no hesitation, I would choose the lead herself, Daisy Jones. The perfect seventies colours like mustard yellow and rustier reds, as well as loads of denim make a gorgeous silhouette. Reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, Daisy is the essence of women in rock and roll and expresses herself through her clothes. There is never a dull moment when Daisy is on screen, and her dress plays a massive role in that eclectic presence, perfect for anyone seeking a showstopping closet for winter, spring, summer or fall.

As mentioned, Daisy is extravagant, a play on her equally sparkling personality. Lots of big coats, boots, fur and statement pieces make this look, the essence of expressive seventies fashion. Though she can cut a casual figure, there is always and extra something there to bring it to the next level. Daisy is effortlessly cool, and her closet shows it, and makes a strong case for the art of subtle accessorizing – think unique bags, rings and hairclips. If you want to add a little more flare (literally) to your look, Daisy is the one for you.

Below are a few selections from the Free People collection that reflect the Daisy’s style:

Whether you are more of a Daisy, Camilla, or Karen, it is undeniable that the fashions of Daisy Jones and the Six are truly ones worth looking at and are certainly the baseline for this summer’s style trends. With big brands like Free People banking in on the style, it is only a matter of time before the seventies renaissance begins.

Lastly, if you haven’t already, pick up a copy of the novel pronto, or at least stream the show. I can promise you that you won’t regret it and might even be further inspired to recreate the looks you see and truly live out your Woodstock dreams.
